Nathan Watson on his works KTM showed the European sand specialists how to do it at the Moto Club Du Littoral, round two of the French sand racing championship (Ronde des Sables) at Loon Plage just outside Dunkirk in north eastern France at the weekend. Watson had already won the first round at Berck earlier in the month and now leads the championship.

After what he thought was a bad start, Watson made steady progress moving forward and took the lead when the race was just an hour old and from then on he was never out of the lead.

Jeffrey Dewulf was second and cross the finish line almost a minute after Watson making it a KTM one, two. Richard Fura brought his Honda home in third as the Yamaha riders had a day they would want to forget.

Daymond Martins was eleventh after mechanical problems meant he spent too much time in the pits while Victor Brossier was ninth and with Steve Ramon, having his first race on a Yamaha after years on a Suzuki was seventh, and was the highest placed blue bike.

Milko Potisek once again had his bike break down while running up the sharp end of the race.

Only the top seven riders finished on the lead lap on the twisty deep and long sandy Loon Plage circuit.

Second UK rider home was the sand race loving Richard McKeown on a Husqvarna against some specially built factory machines.

In Saturday’s quad race won by Jeremy Forestier, the UK’s Sheldon Seal had his best ever finish in fourth while Carl Bunce brought his Suzuki home in ninth place and with Harry Miller twenty seventh place.

Watson and Potisek are reported to be riding in next weekend’s Skegness free to watch beach race.
