Briton Steven Clarke took a strong second place to Frenchman Pierre Goupillion in the muddy EMX250 second moto at St. Jean d’Angeley on Sunday with Brian Moreau third.
Overnight rain changed the circuit into a sketchy rut fest as many of the riders got stuck.
The mud turned the race into a lottery as many of the fancied men lost out, including Brits Mel Pocock and Martin Barr who saw their championship chances hit.
Barr, who led the series going into the event, had a crash in Saturday’s opener and only finished 19th. On Sunday he fared better, taking 10th in front of Todd Kellett and Pocock – who had been sixth on the first day but fell in the mud on Sunday.
That means Mathys Boisrame, who won in Saturday and had a fourth on Sunday, won the overall and now leads the series by 13 points from Pocock, with Barr third a further nine points back and Clarke fourth 17 points behind him.
