At the end of a showery and overcast first day of racing at round three of the Bridgestone British Masters at the excellent Preston Docks venue, the lead in most of the classes couldn’t have been closer which will mean it’s all to play for going in to day two of racing, writes Dick Law.
Adam Wells has a slim two-point lead in the amateur MX1’s from race one winner Joshua Bentley with Harry Bradley just two points behind them.
Charlie Putman and Rob Yates had a win and a second place each in the amateur MX2’s and are tied at the top of that class with Callum Green third, just six points behind.
Greg Fisher won both of the clubman races and has a big twelve-point lead over Josh Watson-Bailey, Peter Sargent, Jason Queenan and Mark Kingsley who are all on the same points.
In the 125cc two-stroke races Joel Rizzi won them both with Sam Price and Troy Willerton following over the finish line in the same order each time.
George Simmutch won the both MXY2 races and goes in to day two with a six point over Rory Jones and Aaron Patstone but with 90 points still up for grabs, it’s all still to play for.
Sam Atkinson is in control of the big wheel 85’s with two wins with Jude Morris and Harvey Cashmere in second and third waiting to take advantage of any mistakes Atkinson may make.
Ollie Colmer won both small wheel 85’s and has an eight-point lead over Keelan Hope and James Barker.
In the junior 65’s Billy Askew with two race wins has a four-point advantage over McKenzie Marshall with Kalvin Kelly a further four points behind him.
The pros will be here on day two and with the weather looking to be better it’s shaping up to be a great day out.
