It’s the always popular AMCA Weymouth Beach Motocross event this coming Sunday, October 28th and even before the entry deadline date had arrived, well over 300 riders have already signed up to go sand-surfing at the Dorset coastal venue. Organised by the Purbeck MXC in conjunction with the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, all of the proceeds from the entries go to local charities. Spectators can watch all of the great action totally FREE although there will be the chance to either donate to one of the many bucket collections or purchase a special souvenir programme!
The Weymouth event offers racing for Unlimited capacity classes of Experts, Seniors and Juniors. Starting at noon with practice, its then a quick-fire afternoon of entertainment with each group getting two outings , the duration being Juniors (15 minutes plus 1 lap), Seniors (20 minutes plus 1 lap) and Experts (25 minutes plus 1 lap).
Leading the early entry list for Weymouth is local favourite and ACU Maxxis Championship runner Jake Shipton. Although Shipton a previous winner might start as slight favourite there’s plenty of other quality pilots also looking to take glory. Topping that list of potential challengers is AMCA and IMBA MX1 European Champion Josh Waterman along with fellow AMCA aces James Dodd, Lee Sealey, Lee Truman, Mark Young, Jack Waterman and also Tommy Alba, Brad Wheeler and Brad Thornhill.
Once the racing is over there’s will then be plenty of opportunity to enjoy all the best hospitality that this famous old Georgian seaside Town can offer, it’s a day not to be missed! Words and pic by Mike Wood
