World champ Courtney Duncan romped to a double win in the opening round of the Women’s World Championship at the Matterley GP, in testing conditions.
She holeshot the opening moto in wet conditions, but was soon passed by Nancy Van Der Ven. But Duncan bided her time and waited for the Dutch woman to make a mistake before pouncing to take the win.
In moto two, she proved her dominance by winning again to make a perfect start to the season.
German Yamaha rider Larissa Papenmeier took second overall with a fourth then a second place. Former world champ Kiara Fontansio, who missed 2019 season to have a baby, came through to a fine second in the first moto but only managed sixth in race two, for third overall.
The best British rider was Nieve Holmes in 24th overall, one spot in front of Kathryn Booth.
