Apico Husky tackle tough Lyng

After a wet week in the lead-up to the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels, the track and paddock at Lyng had held the rain well and the team were prepared for the loamy conditions, opting for paddle tyres to make the most of the starts.

Qualifying proved tough in MX1, with Stuart struggling to find a rhythm and not getting his quick laps in initially, though he still managed to finish 16^th fastest for the session. In MX2, Jamie said he felt good, and the times between his 15^th position to 8^th were all within a second, so racing would be close. Matt struggled by pushing too much initially instead of going with the flow, which meant 29^th at the end of the session. Jack Lindsay did not have an easy ride in the MXY2 qualifier, finishing 6^th fastest by the time the clock had run down.

Jamie Law was lucky to escape injury in a mass pile-up

In MX1 race 1, Stuart did not get out the gate well and was outside the points in the first third of the race. He managed to collect himself and get into a rhythm and fight his way to 16^th at the flag. In race 2 Stuart felt good, though did not get the jump on the MX1 pack again. This time he worked quickly to gain positions on what was a tough and demanding track by the end of the day. Stuart made 13^th position at the flag on the one-liney technical circuit.

In MX2 race 1 Jamie managed to get out the gate well, though was caught in a pile-up at the bottom of the bomb hole on the first lap leaving it all for him to do from a lowly 34^th position. As we have come to expect from the tough Cumbrian, Jamie put on a display of his race craft to fight through the field and finish in a respectable 17^th position. Race 2 showed another great start as he rounded off the lap in 8^th position and the first 2 stroke. After a few laps, he settled into 11^th position and finished the day in 15^th overall.

Matt managed to avoid the first lap pile-up in race 1 coming out in 18^th position, which he managed to maintain for most of the race finished 20^th and scoring his first MXGB point. Unfortunately, in the second race, Matt suffered a technical problem, which meant he had to pull out on lap 3.

Jack was off to a flyer in MXY2 race 1 with the holeshot. After some solid laps and gaping second by 5 seconds he made a mistake which led to a small crash and loss of concentration. He continued in 3^rd place and crossing the line in 4^th place. Race 2 was a little disappointing for Jack, as a decent start saw him in 5^th and then started to progress at the halfway point to 4^th, before making a further mistake and finishing 9^th for 4^th overall in the class. Jack now sits 2^nd in the MXY2 Championship.

Dylan: “The technical nature of the track and the impact of the weather in the first MX1 race made it hard going. Fair play to Stuart. He kept pushing and made up some places when the going was getting tough in both races. That said, it was the same for everybody and even the best in the world didn’t have an easy time of it.

“Lyng is one of those tracks where the results could go either way, most of the time it depends on the start, and in the pro classes, there was only Jamie who managed to make an in-road into the top 10 off the gate. He was unlucky to be collected in the first lap pile-up of race 1, otherwise, we’d have been knocking on the door of a top 10 finish in MX2. Matt struggled again though will keep pushing on and going for the results we know he is capable of. Sometimes you just need a bit of luck.

“Jack had a really good round, all things considered, he was unlucky in the first race, though unfortunately, that’s the nature of racing. When we fall off, we need to get back on and keep going. Props to him though as he’s now second in the MXY2 Championship. Next week is the first round of the MX Nationals and we’re aiming for better results across the classes there”.
