This weekend the Chambers Racing Husqvarna team headed to FatCat Moto Parc for the opening round of the Michelin MX Nationals Powered by Milwaukee on a hot and sunny weekend.

For 2021 the format change saw the Pro riders now competing on both Saturday and Sunday having 4 races across the weekend. On Saturday the Pro riders would race in their machine classes alongside the Experts, before reverting back to the mixed MX1 and MX2 Pro races on Sunday.

Saturday morning saw all three riders head out track for their qualifying sessions and in the Pro MX2 class, Tom Grimshaw finished 9^th fastest, while Glenn McCormick also finished 9^th fastest in the Pro MX1 class. Youth rider Harvey Cashmore was the 8^th fastest in the MXY250 class.

In the two races on Saturday alongside the Expert MX2 riders, Tom struggled with getting a flow on the track and was unable to push forward during the races in his usual fashion. After two tough races, Tom came away with two 12^th places finishes and regrouped ready for a better day on Sunday.

Sunday morning saw Tom feeling much better and in the opening race he gated inside the top 3 of the combined MX1 and MX2 riders before losing a few spaces in the opening laps, just as Tom began to settle into the race, the Red Flag was shown for an injury rider and the result was declared with Tom finishing 7^th in the MX2 class. The final race of the weekend was Tom’s strongest ride as he managed to push forward during the whole race and then he began to struggle in the latter stages like other riders around him, Tom continued to push and passed many riders to finish 6^th in the MX2 class for 9th Overall.

Speaking at the end of the weekend Tom said ‘it was an ok weekend but not one of my best, I always seem to struggle with the pace at FatCat when others go well here so knew it was going to be a tough weekend. On Saturday I struggled and suffered from arm pump and just rode my own races. I had a regroup ready for Sunday and was 3^rd off the start out of the whole race and slipped back a few positions before the Red Flag came out and I finished 7^th and was happy with that. In the last race, I didn’t get the best of starts but got stuck in and push forward as other riders got tired and made passes and got up to 6^th so was really happy to finish to weekend strong’

After qualifying 9^th fastest Glenn had two solid rides on the Saturday racing alongside the Expert MX1 riders and came away with an 11^th in the opening race and followed it up with a 10^th place finish in the second race and was feeling comfortable going into Sunday’s Pro races.

Unfortunately, in the opening race on Sunday, Glenn tweaked his knee and was unable to finish the race due to the pain and retired to prepared for the final race of the weekend. Still, in pain from the first race, Glenn went to the line and rode a strong race to finish in 9^th place for his best result of the weekend and 13^th Overall.

At the end of the day, Glenn commented ‘I have had a pretty solid weekend again getting stronger and stronger each weekend, coming away with an 11th, 10th, DNF and a 9th. Had a little issue where I tweaked my knee in the first moto on Sunday but hopefully, it is nothing too serious. I’m looking forward to continuing to get better each weekend and keep learning.’

This weekend Harvey was once again competing in the MXY250 class and after a strong qualifying result, he lined up for the two races on Saturday and started the weekend strong with a 6^th place finish. Harvey then followed it up with another top 10 results of 9^th in the second race.

On Sunday had another two solid races to finish 6^th and 9^th respectively and claim a well-deserved 6^th overall for the weekend on a very tough and demanding FatCat circuit.

Harvey commented ‘It was an okay weekend at the first round of the MX Nationals, in the first race on Saturday I didn’t have the best start and came through but then got arm pump halfway through and finished 6th in the 250 class. In the second race, I had a bad start and halfway through had a little off in one of the corners which lost me a few positions, so I finished 9th in the 250s. In the third race on Sunday, I had a good start and stayed up the front when it got red-flagged due to an injured rider finished 6^th and in the last race of the day, I didn’t have the best of starts and came through the field finishing 7th for 6th overall so it was a good weekend and a massive thanks to Chambers Racing for the support’

Glenn has had another positive weekend of results and continues to improve on the 450 each week. Unfortunately, he had a slight issue in the first race on Sunday and tweaked his left knee but Glenn being Glenn, decided to still go out in the last race and get his best result of the weekend, so we just hope the knee isn’t too serious. Tom had a tough Saturday and after having some good starts he struggled a bit with the track. Sunday was a better day for Tom with good starts but he just needs to get into a rhythm on the opening laps but he had two good strong results for a positive start to this Championship. Our Youth rider Harvey had a good weekend finish inside the top 10 in every race and claimed a superb 6^th overall. Overall it was a good weekend for the team at a rough tough and hot weekends of racing.
