The Kent circuit of Canada Heights, located on the hillside next to the M25 was the venue for the third round of the Revo ACU British Motocross Championship fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels on Sunday. Canada Heights had seen a layout changed since the championship last visited in 2019 and now runs in the opposite direction and after prolonged rain on Friday, the track was in great condition in the sunshine on race day. The morning qualifying session saw Glenn McCormick qualify well in 12th place in the MX1 class and setting himself up nicely for the races, while Tom Grimshaw finished 22nd fastest in a very close qualifying session. In the Youth class, Harvey Cashmore was down in 34th after suffering a bike problem during the session. Tom Grimshaw – MX2 In the opening race Tom made a mid-pack start and was pushing hard on the opening lap when, unfortunately, he made a mistake and went down in a corner and remounted at the back of the pack. With a lot of work to do, Tom pushed hard through the pack but could only make it to 21st at the flag and missed out on the points. The second MX2 race saw a much better start for Tom, allowing him to avoid any dramas and finish the opening lap in 11th. As the race progressed Tom kept a good pace and managed to move forward towards the end and finish in 9th place which gave him 13th overall on the day and 11th in the Championship standings. Speaking at the end of the day, Tom said “it’s not been the best of days for me. Qualifying I thought that my first lap was good and then came around and saw P23 on the board, so I pushed again and managed to improve a bit. First race I avoided the mayhem and was in 13th then dropped it by myself and as I was getting up I get clipped so restarted last. The track did not allow for much passing as I thought that it was going to be really good, so I only managed to get to 21st and missed the points which I’m annoyed about. In the second race I regrouped and got a better start and rode much better to come home in 9th but I’m still not happy about the day as a whole”. Glenn McCormick – MX1 In the opening race, Glenn suffered a slow start and had to work hard early in the race to recover to 13th place at the finish line. After a bad start in the opening race, Glenn made sure that he got a clean start in the second race and got a good jump. After starting inside the top 15, Gleen got his head down and rode a solid race to finish in 14th place to make it two solid points scoring rides for 11th overall and 15th in the Championship and 4th in the MX1 Expert Championship. After finishing the day Glenn commented “It was a so so day for me really, I qualified in 12th so was happy about that. In the first race, I had a really bad start and managed to get back up to 13th at the flag which I’m happy with but my pace was off so I needed to up that for the second race. in the second race, I got a better start and tried to put my head down and felt better and finished 14th which is ok but as a racer, I’m always looking for better results but I was riding with a slight injury from last weekend, so it was a solid day.” Harvey Cashmore – MXY2 After suffering a bike issue in qualifying, the team worked the solve the team before the race, unfortunately early in the race, the issue returned, and Harvey had to nurse the bike home in 30th and 16th in the 250 class. For the second race, Harvey went out on the spare bike but unfortunately crashed out of the race at the end of the opening lap and retired from the race. Harvey now sits 9th in the Championship. Speaking after a tough day Harvey said, “It has been a very rough day for me, we had a bike issue in qualifying and the first race. we then used the spare bike for the second race but unfortunately, I crashed on the opening lap and had to pull out, but I should be ok for next weekend.” Tim Chambers – Team Owner “It’s been a mixed and very challenging day for us, we didn’t seem to have any luck today. Harvey had a bike issue in qualifying and the first race and then used the spare bike in the second race a crash out. Tom’s first race saw him have a small crash on the first lap and then get clipped as he picked the bike up and restarted in last and missed the points in 21st place. The second race was much better and he got a good result of 9th and then Glenn had two steady rides inside the top 15 with 13th and 14th place finishes. It has been a mixed bag with two top 15’s for Glenn, one good and one bad result for Tom and poor Harvey suffered a bike problem and a crash, so we look forward to a better day at the next event.” |
