David Knight MBE will line up once again for the HydroGarden Weston Beach race on October 13-15 in a bid to add to his win tally of six victories. Knighter, as theMaxman is affectionately known, is one of the toughest enduro riders on the planet and as a winner in both the quad and solo classes in the past, is a force to be reckoned with on the mammoth Weston-Super-Mare dune course.
Classed as one of the old-school style enduro stars, the four-time World Champion and four-time AMA champion has plenty of accolades to his name, including being the outright International Six Days Enduro winner back in 2005. It’s been a turbulent few years for Knighter after surgery on his hips, but the super-strong enduro-ace is back and can’t wait to get started at this year’s event.
“The HydroGarden Weston Beach race isspecial event for me. I’ve either won there, or DNF’d with a technical issue, so it’s a race where anything can happen. It’s a great atmosphere all weekend, and an event I always enjoy doing. I’m looking forward to doing a bit of testing for the race on the beach at home, but it’s one of those rare events that’s a bit special and does require a bit of luck. We’ll be aiming for a result this year, and I can’t wait to get lined up in October,” said the 39-year-old KTM rider.
“You always get guys that are predicted to do well, but it’s different from any other race. It’s a race that requires experience and good judgement, so I’ll just get stuck in and see where we end up. I’ve not done a lot of racing for a while due to the surgery I had on my hips (Knighter had a hip replacement last year) but it’s starting to come good now and I’ve been out riding a lot more,” concluded Knighter.
David will be joined on the beach by hard enduro’s current star KTM racer Jonny Walker, who finished sixth for his HydroGarden Weston Beach Race debut last year. In what will be a battle of old-school against new-school, it’s going to be a fantastic race to see who can reign supreme.
“It’s always great to have Knighter at the race. He’s a great character who says things how it is and he’s well-loved by the enduro community. He has a strong following and has a great history at the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race, so we’re looking forward to having him back and putting on a show for the crowd,” said Director of RHL Activities, Gareth Hockey.
