Apico man Law bows out from pro racing

The last round of the Revo British Motocross Championship Fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels took place at the far-flung Landrake venue down in Plymouth last weekend. With Jack Lindsay fracturing his wrist last weekend at the Michelin MX Nationals, the team had Stuart Edmonds and Martin Barr in MX1 and Jamie Law finishing his British Championship race career in MX2. Thankfully, the gloomy weather that had been predicted earlier in the week did not make an appearance and the scene was set for the last British Championship round of 2022.Qualifying went well for the riders, Jamie was first out and managed to get a quick time in at the end of the session finishing 8th fastest in MX2. MX1 qualifying was up next with Martin getting an early time on the board to take 8th gate pick and Stuart struggled to find a clear lap and went 13th fastest by the end of the session.
Stuart Edmonds 162 Race 1 – 8th, Race 2 – 8th – final round 8th O/a

After returning from injury and with little racing under his belt in 2022, as well as the added pressure of representing Team Ireland at the MXoN, Stuart needed to use his race time to good effect and that he did! Stuart had a great start inside the top 10 and was pushing hard showing no sign of faltering, passing his teammate at the halfway stage, and showing no signs of tiring passing Dan Thornhill on the penultimate lap for 8th. Race 2 was almost a re-run of the first, Stuart getting a good start and making some passes early, then encountering and passing teammate Martin Barr for 8th at the midpoint of the race. This is encouraging for Stuart and his Motocross of Nations Team; it shows his recovery has been positive and he has been a good choice for Team Ireland. Stuart missed several rounds of the Revo British Motocross Championship Fuelled by Gulf Race Fuels though had enough points on the board to finish 13th in the MX1 Championship.
Martin Barr 50 Race 1 – 10th, Race 2 – 9th – final round 10th O/a

After last week’s performance at the MX Nationals, Martin was coming into the last round with confidence and hoping to make up some places in the championship. Race 1 started well, with Martin in 7th and pushing before fading due to a technical issue that saw his bike lose power. Martin managed to control the situation to the flag and hang on for 10th. With the bike fixed for race 2, Martin made another good start close to the front, though had not found his flow all day and struggled. He crashed in front of the pit box on lap 5 to see teammate Stuart pass him for 9th. Towards the end of the race, Martin seemed to get his focus back making up time and passing John Adamson to finish 10th in the race and 10th overall, ending up 8th in the MX1 Championship. Martin did secure 1st overall in the separate Expert Championship, for those riders who are not contending GPs and running domestic-only competitions in front of Liam Knight and Glenn McCormick.
Jamie Law 25 Race 1 – 15th Race 2 11th – final round 15th O/a
Landrake was to be the final round of Jamie Law’s 20-year professional career. Jamie has been with the team since 2017 and has been an Apico-sponsored rider for many years. This year has been a career best for him and with a 7-point gap to 3rd in the British MX2 Championship, there was a chance for a final podium. In race 1 Jamie did not get the start he needed, taking a stacked inside line around the first few corners put him in a mid-pack position. Whilst still on the first lap, Jamie made a mistake on the downhill after the mechanic’s area, this left him dead last and with a lot of work to do. Jamie battled as he always has, managing to take back places to finish 15th. With 3rd place in the MX2 Championship looking like a bridge too far, Jamie went into race 2 still giving his all, pushing until the final flag for 11th and 15th overall at Landrake and a career-best 4th overall in the MX2 British Championship.
Dylan Brown, Team ManagerThe rollercoaster of a season is done, the riders have always left their hearts and souls out on the track, and I couldn’t ask for any more than that. No matter what the position, or what has happened this season they guys have always pushed back when they’ve been able to.Today was special as it was the last British Championship Race for Jamie Law, I hope you all liked the graphics we made for his final races. Unfortunately, Jamie couldn’t capitalise and make third in the championship, though not for want of trying, we all put a lot in to try and help him achieve this. 4th is still a fantastic finish and Jamie’s career-best finish in both championships. Something we’re all really proud of, especially when you look at the riders in the class. I’d like to thank Jamie, Karen, Mike, Livvy and Jeanette for their support this season, the paddock won’t be the same without you.
Stuart had a great round, something to show why he has been a worthy selection for Team Ireland at the MXoN after his injury. It’s a shame he’s not been able to show his full potential this season, though I guess that’s part of racing. After getting back to racing last weekend and then putting in a solid 2 races at Landrake, I would hope he’s on top form in America in the coming weeks for the Nations.

Martin was unlucky today with an issue in qualifying and then the first race. He too has had a tough season suffering from fatigue and will hopefully have some answers to his health issues next month after his MRI. For now, he looks ready for the MXoN with Team Ireland and it’s great to have 2 of the 3 riders on the team. Martin has had a solid season and despite illness has been able to perform consistently. His finishes in 3rd for the MX Nationals and 8th in the Revo British Championship are testament to that.

Jack would no doubt have finished just outside the top 20 of the MX2 Revo British Championship had he been able to race the last round. For a rookie season, it’s good to have seen him make the transition and grow as a rider over the year.

I’d like to thank Anna for her support and contributions to the team, at the end of the day it’s the boss that lets us go racing! To all the team members, mechanics, media and family thank you for what you do. Lastly, the brands that support the team, you’re all so valuable not just to the team but to our business – thank you, and hopefully, we’ll see you all again in 2023.
