Chambers Racing Husqvarna team members Jake Millward and Tom Grimshaw, with last weekend’s scheduled national championship being cancelled, travelled to the Acerbis Amateur Nationals at a well prepared Culham Moto Park just outside Abingdon in Oxfordshire.
Each rider had five races over the two days of the weekend. Jake finished the event third overall after a crash on the opening lap of race two spoilt his chances of the overall win. After his crash came around in very last place but by the end of the nine-lap race, he crossed the finish line in an excellent fifth place, overtaking twenty-two riders on the way.
“It was an enjoyable weekend racing with some great battles and a few crashes along the way,” said Jake, “We made some big improvements to the suspension of the machine throughout the weekend, which is what we set out to do, which we have been struggling with lately. But overall a good and enjoyable weekend”.
Tom on his MX2 Chambers Racing Husqvarna, was always going to be struggling against the MX1 up Culham’s multiple uphill sections with their power advantage ended his weekend fourth overall and just off the podium. The Acerbis series runs an “open” class scoring both bike classes together but Tom was the first MX2 rider overall amongst many of the MX1 riders.
“I had to work extremely hard this weekend against the 450’s,” said Tom, “The track was fast but choppy so still made for some good racing. Overall I am happy with my riding and it was a successful weekend for me and the team”. Words and pic by Dick Law.
