Former AMA 250 Motocross champion and Current Australian Supercross Champion, Dean Wilson will be returning home to the British Isles to race in the 2025 British Arenacross and AX World Tour Championships.
The likeable and popular Scotsman will be no doubt be a big hit with the British fans, no more so than in his native country when the tour arrives at the P&J Live Arena in Aberdeen on Saturday 8th February. Although Wilson has spent the majority of his career racing on the other side of the Atlantic, he’s proud of his Scottish roots and when the opportunity came along to represent Great Britain at the Motocross of Nations he was honoured to step up to the plate and give it his best shot, which he did on the six occasions he raced for Team GB.
Now he has another opportunity to ‘come home’ and for the first time race for a British title in his long and illustrious career. Something ‘Deano’ is relishing….
“I’m excited to be coming back to the UK to race the Arenacross World Tour and British championship and in particular going back home to Scotland to race” says the likeable ‘Deano’. “I’ve never raced a national championship in Britain and it’s something I’ve wanted to do before hanging up my boots and helmet. I’ve been watching the series for the last couple of years and seen Tommy (Searle), Conrad (Mewse) and Jack (Brunell) go at it and been thinking to myself, ‘I’d like to get out there and bang bars, join the party and have some fun with them’. Of course, I want to win the British and AX World Tour championships, I’m definitely not coming over to make up the numbers or as a show pony. Once the show starts and the gate drops I’ll be focusing on the win, but I also want to embrace the experience. From what I’ve seen it’s one hell of a show and I’m looking forward to catching up with all the British fans and a lot of my friends in the U.K. I’m genuinely pumped about racing Arenacross and coming back home for a while.”
Arenacross owner and promoter Matt Bates is also really happy with the acquisition of having one the U.K’s most successful and popular motocross riders joining the AX World Tour and British Arenacross championship.
“Dean is a true legend of the sport and will be a huge asset to Arenacross. Not just for winning AMA championships and Supercross main events, but for his all-round popularity both on and off the racetrack. I’m sure I’m speaking for every UK motocross fan when I say that it will be a truly amazing sight to see him compete for his first British title on home soil – and for his first time racing indoors in Scotland”.
For his assault on both indoor championships, Wilson will be teaming up with someone he’s worked closely with before, Team GB’s MX of Nations team manager Mark Chamberlain. Mark, along with Steve and Andy Annear at St Blazey MX have put together the best racing package for Deano to try and get the job done and win his first official British title, as Mark explains;
“We’re all buzzing on putting together the ‘Armor Vision powered by St Blazey MX Team’ for Deano to come over and race at home. Steve and Andy at St Blazey MX have been lifelong family friends so to make a team with them and have someone of Deano’s level and character is a perfect combination all round. We’re excited to get him over and in front of the British Fans. Arenacross is a great series for the sport, and we are happy to be supporting it as much as possible! Roll on January.”
