The infamous sand track at Lierop in Holland looks set to close its doors to bikes on June 1 following a council meeting where there was pressure to halt all motorsport there.
Mayor Veltman said the local residents had tolerated racing there for a long time, but it’s now time to take action against all motocross activities on the track – racing and practice. “We started talking to the objectors, looking for a compromise, but there was no compromise to be had,” said Veltman. he said there could be a chance of the circuit being saved through a legal process via the city council. “But the chances are very small.”
The track has been a regular on the calendar for years and is the track where Jeffrey Herlings came close to lapping the entire field.
