Shaun Simpson was side-by-side with Max Anstie for the opening MX1 race at the Hawkstone International into the first turn, but lost control and was thrown down hard – then pummelled to the ground by the chasing pack including Jake Nicholls who was right behind him and couldn’t miss the carnage. Simpson, who was suffering with flu anyway, pulled out of the race but rode the remaining two motos although he was obviously downtuned. Photo sequence by Ady Cowshall
