Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee tackled their home Grand Prix at Matterley Basin over the weekend – round two of the FIM Motocross World Championship was held in Great Britain. Adam Sterry and Conrad Mewse were joined beneath the awning by a new signing, Ashton Dickinson, who will race in MX2 for the team for the rest of the year. Conrad Mewse was eager to get his Grand Prix season back on track, after missing round one with an illness, but was marred by poor starts throughout the day. Mewse started outside of the top twenty each time on a track that was difficult to make gains on – he still salvaged some solid points though. A seventeenth in moto one was a difficult start to the round, but he improved in moto two and crossed the finish line in fourteenth. Seventeenth was the position that he occupied in the overall classification. Ashton Dickinson, who raced for the Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee squad for the first time at the Grand Prix of Great Britain, impressed in his debut. Dickinson matched his career-best result with a fourteenth in moto one, before engaging in an intense battle in moto two that included countless passes. Nineteenth was the result that he secured when that encounter ended – that put him twentieth in the overall classification. A solid start to his time with the team! Adam Sterry continued to impress and make strides in the premier division; he secured a good haul of points in the extremely competitive field. A poor start left him in eighteenth in moto one, which ensured that three points would be added to his total, but then he came alive in the second stint. Sterry battled around the top fifteen for the duration and looked at home whilst doing so. Fifteenth was where he ended up, which gave him seventeenth overall on the day. Eighteenth is where he sits in the premier-class standings. The Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee squad are now focused on round three of the 2021 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Italy, which will be run on Sunday. The event will be held at the historic track of Maggiora. Conrad Mewse: “Good to get my MXGP season started at the home GP today. My starts were not where I needed them to be, so I was working my way up from the back all day. The fans were amazing the whole time! We will go back to work this week and get ready for Maggiora.” Ashton Dickinson: “The British GP was a good one with my new team! I was happy to come away with points in both motos. My Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee bike was a beast… I cannot thank the team enough for the performance this weekend! A massive thank you to all of the British fans who came out as well. The noise was unreal!” Adam Sterry: “Solid day at the home GP! Getting a good start is important at the moment, but I still managed to move up in each moto for some solid points. We have something good to build off of now, so I’m excited to make more steps forward in Italy.” Roger Magee (Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee Team Owner): “The team had expectations of some really good results today, but as in any sport sometimes things don’t always work out that way. In MX2 timed practice Conrad had a positive P7, only nine tenths behind pole position. However, in both motos he had bad starts and was only able to finish P18 and P14 on a track that was very fast and not as technically challenging as in previous years. “Ashton made a very promising debut for Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee and ran in P12 for most of the moto until he had a slight technical issue in the last few laps, which demoted him to P14. In the second moto he again showed good pace given the high intensity of the class and scored more points. In the stacked MXGP class, Adam did well to score points in both motos and was exceptional in the second one where he finished P15 at the chequered flag in what was probably the most competitive race of the season so far.” |
