Former MotoGP star Danilo Petrucci is out of his first ever Dakar when his KTM’s motor broke and he couldn’t mend it. The MotoGP winner, who switched to off-road this year, was running as high as fifth today when his bike expired. Yesterday he contested his first ever Dakar stage and finished 13th.
There is a chance he will be allowed to fit a new engine and continue to ride the event, but just for fun as he is officially ‘out’ of the race. That would be an ideal experience for his future off-road career. The 31-year-old started his career racing dirt bikes but switched to road racing aged 16 and won two MotoGP races for the Ducati team.
