A week after the Oakland Supercross was cancelled due to weeks of rain storms that have hit California, tomorrow’s media day riding at the San Diego round has also been canned, to protect the track before Saturday’s race. With so much rain, the dirt itself is still wet so the organisers want to give it chance to dry out. The weather is now sunny, with no more rain predicted.
“The weather has not been kind in Southern California and we want to ensure that our track construction team and operational staff have ample time to prep the stadium and make sure the racetrack is properly prepared for Saturday’s event,” said Supercross PR manager Sean Brennan.
The event is at a brand new venue, at Snapdragon Stadium. This is a football stadium so the track area is bigger and rectangular rather than the smaller triangular stadiums used for baseball, such as Anaheim.
The track layout has one whoop section but the unusual feature is a wide, flat turn that runs across the front of the start line.
