The future of motocross is in Estonia and the riders are revved up for this weekend at the beautiful track and venue here of Lange Motokeskus in Tartu, Estonia, for the 2017 edition of the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship. The picturesque circuit is relatively new to the area opened in 2012 first hosting the Tanel Leok and friends event. Now 5 years later, all is set for the biggest event in the track’s history.
This evening, as a start to the weekend, an opening ceremony was held which opened with speeches from FIM/CMS Director, Tony Skillington, President of the Estonian Motorcycle federation, Andre Sepp, Head of Haaslava Municipality, Priit Lomp, and Youthstream Representative, Patricia Maskarova. During the ceremony the teams from 28 different countries were introduced, riders were each given a medal of participation by the Local Organizer Lauri Roosiorg, then each team planted a tree alongside the circuit as part of the 2017 Ride Green Cup, and finally all of the teams joined together for a family photo.
In the 125cc class last year’s EMX85 and 85 Junior World Champion, Rene Hofer, has moved up to the bigger 2t. Hofer will however line up against several other world class competitors such as last year’s 85cc runner up, Estonian Meico Vettik, who will be hard to beat in his home country, and the current 2017 EMX125 Points leader Brian Moreau. The list of top contenders doesn’t end there though as Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Mikkel Haarup, Gianluca Facchetti, Kevin Horgmo, and Raivo Dankers will all head to the starting line this weekend.
The 85cc class will have last year’s top five finisher Nikita Petrov from Russia return to contend once again against riders such as last year’s 3rd place finisher in 65cc, Latvian Edvards Bidzans and even riders all the way from Australia such as Jett Lawrence.
While the other classes have many returning talent, the 65cc Junior World Cup class is full of young new faces and all are looking to put their name in the record books. While Mads Fredsoe Sorensen has already made his mark as the 2017 FIM European Motocross 65cc Champion, a World Cup title is at the forefront of his focus this weekend.
On top of having the title of FIM Junior Motocross World Champion or the 65cc World Cup title, the winners will also receive a Scott Scale bike courtesy of our sponsor Scott Sports.
It’s now time for these young athletes to show their talent let their hard work pay off with the qualifying sessions.
